Cindy Duggin, LICSW
Counseling for your mental and emotional wellbeing.
I welcome adults age 18 and older, working with individuals, couples and families on a variety of mental and emotional problems or situations. All are welcome regardless of race, ethnicity, and sexual or religious preference. There are some problems that may be beyond the scope of my practice. If you are in any doubt, please call for your free 20-minute telephone consultation. If I cannot help you, I’ll make every effort to get you to someone who can.
I have been in practice for 25 years. I graduated from the University of Nebraska at Omaha with my Masters of Social Work in 1996. I have always enjoyed working with a wide variety of people and their challenges, with the main purpose of assisting them to find their way to a happier life. I have great empathy for the stressful situations people experience. My clients tell me they like working with me because I don’t judge, and they feel I genuinely listen. I work collaboratively with my clients, and each one receives an individualized approach to their issues. In 2011 I completed a Masters Certificate in Gerontology, and I work with you on issues related to aging or with aging loved ones. I also specialize in working with post-traumatic stress. I use specialized techniques to assist with anxiety reactions, phobias, and chronic pain. Over the years I have developed an interest in and skilled approach to working with couples to improve their relationships. It is very rewarding to see a struggling couple get to a place of calm and loving presence with each other.
Although I employ several types of therapy in my practice, my work is based in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. That means that I work both with decreasing negative thought patterns and increasing healthy thoughts and behaviors that will support recovery and enhance the quality of your life. This includes improving your ability to cope emotionally with stressful events or with depressed and anxious feelings. We meet together in casual and supportive conversation. I strive to create a comfortable, safe and confidential place for you to share your story.
I have three additional methods that I use. Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is useful for people who are still bothered by events in the past. I also use it for anxiety and phobias. I use hypnotherapy to assist with stress, chronic pain and illness, phobias, tobacco cessation, and to improve performance in academics or sports. Finally, I use Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) in my work with couples. You can learn more about these approaches in Helpful Links.
